Richard Rodgers Theatre

This October, Hamilton will be running in Richard Rodgers Theatre, the highly praised theatre of New York as well as the No.1 possible entertainment venue for this world-wide phenomenon Musical. The critically acclaimed and award-winning performance continues to tell its unsurpassed tale from city to city all over the Nation.

Premiering off Broadway in 2015, The production was not instantly the Broadway hit that it is now. Lin-Manuel Miranda has spoken publicly about its origins, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda sharing that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That one single performance resulted in praise and a well-earned standing ovation from his crowd at the time, including former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and directly led to Miranda’s creation of the Hamilton musical we know now.

Due to his previous experience in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also gained inspiration from other successful theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which is based on a common theme that tells the story of a struggle, and overcoming that struggle, instead of the usual musical theatre biases that follow the trend of being very uplifting and happy. Similarly Hamilton, being about the difficulties arising as an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who rose to power and became the first American Treasury Secretary. With the greatest respect to its source material, Hamilton shows us both the good and bad in Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only giving us a glimpse into his personal life and struggle, but also his impact and effect in being able to significantly shape America during his lifetime.

By telling this story, the production continues to present its timelessness in popular culture and even international public discourse, confronting questions and challenges that are highly relevant not only to the Country, but also globally. Even the use of musical styles of hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the main score has solidified its place in pop culture, making it one of the most relevant hit New York musicals today.
